12 hour – intermediate
A 2 day workshop all about spinning cotton for spinners that are curious about this wonderful fiber. Students must have a basic understanding of how to spin yarn on a spinning wheel.
- Introduction to cotton
- Spinning wheel set up
- Discuss dyeing cotton and blending colors
- Card and spin from punis and rolags
- Spin from cotton sliver
- Spin using different techniques on charkhas, taklis, and akhas
- Practice basic plying techniques and what twist to look for
- Discuss finishing techniques for knitting/crochet and weaving
*A third day could be added to this class for dyeing ginned cotton and sliver
